Peter C. Wolk, Esquire, Law Office of Peter C. Wolk; Executive Director, National Center for Nonprofit Law

Description:
This workshop will guide staff and board members of 501 (c) (3) organizations in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia in their efforts to meet legal, corporate and tax obligations. Participants will get an overview of the necessary forms and filings in three areas: those related to the organization's status as a corporation, status as a tax-exempt entity and status as an employer. Workshop attendees will receive a free copy of the publication, The Paper Chase.

Presenter Bio:
Peter C. Wolk is a lawyer who has specialized in creating, representing, and advising nonprofit organizations since 1984. He has a nonprofit law practice, is the Founder and Executive Director of the National Center for Nonprofit Law, teaches Nonprofit Law and Governance at the University of Maryland, is on the Board of the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington, and has written The Art of Creating Nonprofit Organizations & The Paper Chase.

Description:
Whether it's time for your first audit or your tenth, getting ready for the auditors is 95% of the work. This workshop will help you prepare for your audit by providing and reviewing a checklist of records and reports that will be needed for the process.

Presenter Bios:
Sally Johnson provides tax, accounting and auditing services to a wide range of individuals and businesses in the Washington, DC area. She has a particular interest in not-for-profit organizations and has rendered services to a variety of DC's associations and members of the arts community. Sally received her Bachelor's Degree in accounting from the University of Maryland. She is Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts and the Maryland Association of CPA's. She joined Bormel, Grice and Huyett in 1999.

Ray Plummer is a graduate of Shippensburg University with a Bachelor's Degree in accounting. He joined the firm of Bormel, Grice & Huyett in 2002 and currently works as an accounting and auditing supervisor in the firm's not-for-profit specialty group.
