Presenter:
Randy Cohen, VP of Policy & Research, Americans for the Arts
Description:
Last year, two great research tools, tailored to our regions arts and culture community were updated and reintroduced: Arts & Economic Prosperity III and Creative Industries. These studies provide the facts arts marketing and development professionals need when making the case for arts to do donors, sponsors, and partners. Join Randy Cohen, VP of Policy & Research at Americans for the Arts, for this lively session as he focuses on these studies as they relate to our region and our individual jurisdictions.
About the Presenter:
Randy Cohen is vice president of Policy & Research at Americans for the Arts, where he has developed the knowledge tools used to advance the arts in America since 1991. His recent work includes the two benchmark economic studies of the arts industry–Arts & Economic Prosperity 3, the national economic impact study of nonprofit arts organizations and their audiences; and Creative Industries, a statistical mapping study of the nation’s arts businesses using Dun & Bradstreet data.
In 2006, he launched the National Arts Policy Roundtable in partnership with Robert Redford and the Sundance Preserve, a convening of national leaders who focus on issues critical to the advancement of American culture. Randy developed the Institute for Community Development and the Arts, which included working with the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities to create Coming Up Taller, the White House report documenting 225 arts programs for youth-at-risk; and the U.S. Department of Justice to produce the YouthARTS Project, the first national study to statistically document the impact of arts programs on at-risk youth.
As a spokesman for Americans for the Arts, Randy has given speeches in 48 states and regularly appears in the news media—including the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and on CNN and NPR.

Presenters:
Eric Haeker, executive and artistic director, Pieris Music (formerly Arts in Motion)
Jennifer Rossi, web and eCommunications Manager, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden
Description:
You've heard about YouTube, Podcasting, and MySpace, but these are just of few of the Web 2.0 technologies available to the savvy 21st century marketer. Without a sound background in the paradigm shifting implications of viral marketing, it is easy to be overwhelmed by the constant flow of new technologies and trends. Join Eric Haeker and Jennifer Rossi as they present an overview of social networking concepts, fleshed out with recent examples and emerging best practices. Armed with knowledge of the basics, you'll then break off into smaller groups based on your organization's size or discipline. Eric, Jennifer, and the rest of your group will provide feedback as you develop tangible, realistic plans that you may be able to implement immediately (often at little or no cost!). This workshop targets mid-size arts organizations that are using social networking technology or are considering incorporating it into their marketing plans.
About the Presenters:
Eric Haeker is an arts consultant, composer, and software entrepreneur with clients ranging from Red Bull to Opera Carolina. With past projects including Concerto for Turntable in Carnegie Hall, he represents a new generation of arts entrepreneur, integrating technical, business and artistic skills into a unique vision of creative possibilities and new business practices. His consulting work with cultural organizations has included traditional marketing, development, and board facilitation engagements, but he specializes in emerging practices such as viral and peer-to-peer marketing. He is a regular speaker at national conferences and has worked with several of the nation’s leading consultants.
In 2002, Eric founded pieris music (formerly Arts in Motion), a Philadelphia nonprofit devoted to progressive concerts and education programs. Eric's work with pieris includes composing, performing and teaching inner-city youth. The Philadelphia Inquirer dubbed him "the ultimate classical-music insider" in the emerging field of music visualization and praised his 2004 Kimmel Center premier: "Past attempts to pair music with visuals have been critically damned, but the latest endeavor, involving computer-generated abstract imagery, made a deeply promising debut…" Building upon this critical success, Eric currently has a patent pending on his unique computer visualization process.
Jennifer Rossi has been the Webmaster and eCommunications Manager at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden since 2004. She is responsible for the redesign and maintenance of the Museum's web site, developing online exhibitions and other new media content, managing email and web-based marketing initiatives, and producing the Hirshhorn's highly successful Podcast program. Jennifer received a Bachelor of Science in Interactive Digital Media (cum laude) from Drexel University in Philadelphia in 2002. Before coming to the Hirshhorn, she was the Web Manager for Surgical Monitoring Associates, a biomedical company based in Bala Cynwyd, PA and Web Manager for the Police and Fire Federal Credit Union in Philadelphia, PA.
